The Paper Shelter ~ Christmas Break 2024

Hello friends! Welcome to our 2024 Christmas Break Challenge at

Although this is our last challenge for the year, we do have lots of inspiration for you as both Team A and Team B are participating in this challenge.

Our theme for this challenge is
~ Anything Goes ~

For this card, I used the Dear Santa digi set from The Paper Shelter.

I have a few layers of this digi on this card.  First I print and cut two layers of the entire image and adhered them together with foam squares.  Then I printed just the Santa and adhered that to the other layers, also using foam squares.
I used the Santa's Coat Rack die set and the Santa's Chair & Boots die set, both from Cottage Cutz, to create the coat rack with Santa's neatly pressed jacket and his shinny boots.

Here is a close up of Santa reading all his letters.  Love the little kitten keeping him company 😀

I used the background paper that comes in this digi set for my backgrounds, both on the front of the card and on the inside.  The greeting was cut in red and white cardstock using the Merry Christmas w/Shadow die set, also from Cottage Cutz.  The Santa hat was cut from the same Santa's Coat Rack die set that was used above.  Forgot to mention that I created the card base on the Silhouette, by welding two nested shapes together. I made this card to measure 5.5" square so it doesn't require extra postage.

Our Christmas Break Challenge runs for 4 weeks, and although we are taking a break, there is still a chance to win a prize. Check out the details below ...

Team A will be kicking off the New Year on the 15th of January 2025, with a "Winter Blues" challenge.  Unfortunately, I will no longer be a part of the DT.  I have family coming and going till the 16 August, so I thought I would take a break from DT commitments to focus my time on my family.  I'm really going to miss this fabulous DT but I'm also very excited about having family over.

So dear friends, take care, stay safe and have a very Merry Christmas! 🎄

The Paper Shelter #619 ~ Add a Number

Hello crafting friends and welcome to this week's challenge

Team A - our challenge this week is
~ Add a Number ~

I used The Number One Hot Dog digi set from The Paper Shelter to create my card.

I uploaded this cutie to Silhouette and used the print and cut feature to cut it out twice.  Remember I always print my digi images on photo paper to get a crisp vivid image.  Not that cardstock doesn't print well, I just prefer the vivid colours on my printer when printing on photo paper.

I adhered the two layers together using foam squares.  By now you guys know that I always do this to give my cards a little dimension.  I normally use the 1 mm foam squares from Hunkydory or from Marianne Designs.  This adds dimension but very little bulk which is important for me as I mail a lot of my cards overseas.

Since she is selling hot dogs, I thought I would add a few of my other favourite "fun" foods, burgers and fries! Don't know why people call them junk!  I think they're awesome!!!!😁  I especially love the fries (chips) you buy in Holland.  They come in cones with a large dollop of mayonnaise and a tiny fork, just as pictured above.

I used the following materials to create this card:
Card Frame - SL35 - Studio Light
Cactus Hillside Border - Lawn Fawn
Fries Die Set - Marianne Design
Hamburger Die Set - Marianne Design
Red Cardstock - Bazzill
White Cardstock - Colorbok
Pattern Paper - DCWV
Silhouette - Greeting and Sentiment
Stampin' Up Punches for mats of Sentiment
Twine - The Paper Studio

For the birthday greeting, I made it in Silhouette and then printed it on photo paper too.  I just didn't have a Happy Birthday die that would fit on this small card front.  Lastly I threaded a piece of white and silver twine through the side of the card. When closed and ready to mail, this card measures 6" x 4" and fits perfectly into an A7 envelope.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  Before I leave, I would like to invite you to come play along with us.  Remember that The Paper Shelter has fabulous prizes up for grabs. Check out the details below ...

I do hope you will come join the fun and share your projects with us.

The Paper Shelter #617 ~ The Little Ones

Hello crafting friends and welcome to this week's challenge

Team A - our challenge this week is
~ The Little Ones ~
(make something for a child)

Using the Frosty Fun digi, I made this Double Block Step Card.
(For tutorial, please click on the link above.)

I print and cut the little guy a couple of times, on photo paper, and the adhered the two layers to each other using foam square.  I also print and cut the background that comes in this digi set and used it to cut out the background small squares.

Here is a close up of this mischievous little guy.  You can just see it on his face.  This is my grandson to a T, so this card is definitely for him for Christmas 😀

I traced the snowbank and print and cut it. I adhered it to the top adding an extra layer of dimension.

I used very small pom-poms as snow balls to add a little more dimension.

I stamped my sentiment using Versafine Onyx Black ink.  Here is a list of the additional items I used to make this card.

Double Block Step Card - Mixed Up Craft
Dear Santa Stamp Set - Avery Elle
Text Banners - Marianne Design
Silver Mirror Cardstock - Hunkydory
Navy Cardstock - Bazzill

I love shaped cards and this is one that is always fun.  The big plus is that it folds flat making it easy to mail.

The Paper Shelter #615 ~ Squares or/and Circles

Hello crafting friends and welcome to this week's challenge

Team A - our challenge this week is
~ Squares or Circles ~
(make a circle or square shaped card or include circles or squares on your project)

For this week's challenge, I made a Halloween card for a very special young lady in my life, using the very cute  Impish Halloween Lover digi set.

I went with squares for my project.  Not only did I make a square card, but I used the Layout Square die from Marianne Design and  included a few squares on my project too!

Here is a close up of this cutie and all the layers I made to add some dimension to my card.  I print and cut it out 5 times.  On 3 of these, I  just make the pic white so it would not waste ink.  I adhered these white layers together.  Next I printed the full image twice.  I adhered one of the layers to the other 3 so it would make it sturdy.  The second full image I adhered it to the existing layers with foam squares.  While I had the whole image on Silhouette, I traced just the sweets portion of the image, from the teddy to the kitty, and print and cut that small piece.  I adhered that on top, also using foam squares.

You can't quite tell the dimension I achieved with all the layers from the pics, but maybe this one shows it a little better.

I cut out the Layered Square 5 times, out of black cardstock, and adhered each layer to each other using liquid glue.  Next I print the background that comes with this set and cut it out using the same die.  Then it was just a matter of paper piecing.

I used the background on the inside too, but added my greeting and used Silhouette's print and cut feature to cut it out.  I had printed a few extra sweets, so I added them to the inside of the card just for fun.

This is a 6" x 6" card.  A bit bigger than my normal size, but to be honest, I do like the way it turned out.  I'm hoping that my little Emma is going to love it too.

Yikes, Halloween is just around the corner and I still have a few cards to make.  I'd better get cracking!!  Now before I go, I would like to invite you to come play along with us.  Remember that The Paper Shelter has fabulous prizes up for grabs. Check out the details below ...

With Halloween just around the corner, I thought I'd work on my stash as I still need a few more cards.  I used this Adorable Halloween Witch digi from The Paper Shelter to create my double diamond card.

The card base is a file from Silhouette.  The pattern paper is called Hats, from the Bootiful Collection by Julie Nutting .  The cardstocks used are from The Paper Studio.

I printed the image on photo paper and then cut it out twice.  I adhered the two layers to each other using pop dots to add a little dimension.

Here is a close up of this cutie!  I used the pre-coloured image from this digi set.

I made a mat for the back to write my message.  The greeting is from the Spooky Sayings stamp set by Cardz TV.  I print and cut a few more candies and added them to the bottom of this mat for a little extra interest.

When folded, this card measures 5.25" square and fits perfectly into a 5.75" square envelope.

And that was that.  Another Halloween card made, this one I think is going to go to my little granddaughter :-)  Thank you so much for stopping by today.  I would love to you see you play along with us.  You have until noon, CST, on 12 November 2024, to link your project to our challenge.

The Paper Shelter #613 ~ Leaves are Falling

Hello crafting friends and welcome to this week's challenge

Team A - our challenge this week is
~ Leavings are Falling ~

It's with sadness that we, the DT at The Paper Shelter, post our challenge today.  You see it's the first challenge we're posting without our beautiful Veronica.  For the full announcement, please see this post at The Paper Shelter Blog.

Using the lovely Autumn Enchantment digi, I created this rocker card.

I used the Silhouette to cut the base and all the mats, as well as print and cut this gorgeous fairy and the leaves.  I printed the fairy on photo paper.  It's the best way to get my printer to print crisp images.

I cut the fairy out twice and then used foam squares to adhere the two together.  This adds a little dimension to the card but not enough bulk to make it a problem when mailing it overseas.

On the back, I stamped my greeting and added a few more leaves to add a little interest.  The greeting is from the Thankful for You stamp set by Cardz TV.  The patterned paper is called Leaves by The Paper Studio.

When folded for mailing, it fits perfectly into an A7 envelope.

That is it for today.  Thank  you so much for stopping by.  I hope you enjoyed your visit.  Before I leave, I would like to invite you to come play along with us.  Remember that The Paper Shelter has fabulous prizes up for grabs. Check out the details below ...

The Paper Shelter #611 ~ Embossing!

Hello crafting friends and welcome to this week's challenge

Team A - our challenge this week is
~ Embossing ~
(You can do any type of embossing on your project)

For my DT project, I used the new My Big Scarf digi set from The Paper Shelter.

Sometimes you need a card in a jiffy and my go to company is always The Paper Shelter. I love their digi sets as they come with all you need to make a quick, yet fabulous card.  All digi sets come with a background, and the images come in both jpg and png format.  I printed the background on smooth white cardstock,  Then I uploaded the image, in png format, to the Silhouette and used the print and cut feature to print and cut two of them.  This time I used photo paper to get a sharp clear image.  I just find that my printer works best with photo paper.

Here is a close up to show you this cutie with her big scarf, and the 3D embossing folder I used, called Dotty Flourish from Sue Wilson.

On the inside of the card, I printed another background, also on smooth white cardstock, and using the Silhouette, I designed and printed the sentiment on it.

And that was it folks.  I probably spent about 20 minutes top getting this card done. If you're like me, you take a while to figure out what papers you want to use and what goes with what colour, etc.  Using one of these digi sets makes it easy peasy because it's done for you! 😀
