Congrats on your Graduation!

Hello crafting friends. My term with the Dies R Us design team has come to an end. I can't begin to tell  you how much I have loved being a part of this awesome team and how much I'm going to miss it.  But it's time to give other very creative and talented members their turn to inspire you :-)

For this post, I created a graduation card using several dies from Karen Burniston and a few other companies.  The list of supplies will be further down on this post.

The front of the card with a very cute and smart owl from Marianne Designs.

When you open the card, the balloon arrangement pops-out of the parcel.
I used the Parcel Pop-up to make this card, as well as the Flap and Closure dies to create the closure on the card. Both sets of dies are by Karen Burniston.  Tutorial link below.

An idea of how it looks as it's being opened.

And then when it's fully opened. It's such a fun interactive card, and the possibilities are endless!

Here is a close up of the "celebration in a parcel" 😀

I began by using the Flap and Closure die to create my card base, and adhering the patterned paper to the insides and to the front and closure flap.  I chose these colours because they are the university colours.

Then I worked on the parcel. I wanted the corrugated cardboard effect, but since I don't have an embossing folder with this pattern, I dug into my "old tools" drawer and got out my very old, and very neglected, straight paper crimper.  Does anyone still used them? Next I highlighted the folds with color box cat's eye brown ink.

Now it was time to cut out all my bits and pieces using various dies, and assembling the contents of the parcel pop up.  For directions on how to make the mechanism, please see the video tutorial by Karen Burniston.

On a different video tutorial, Karen Burniston mentions a way to make the lift mechanism stronger, so that is what I did.  It's pretty simple and well worth it. You just cut that little piece, seen on the above pic, and adhere it with strong adhesive to the original die cut.  The video tutorial for this is HERE.

Once the inside was complete, I cut out all the bits and pieces for the owl. It's a great way to use up all your scraps and since the dies are not very big, you can die cut the entire own in one sweep if you have one of the larger die cutting machines.

All that was left was to put the owl together, cut a mat and adhere it to the front.  I used a small velcro closure for my card, but you can use the closures that come with the Flap and Closure die set.

I'm a very messy crafter while creating my projects, and for those of you who are like me, I have a small tip for you.  Find a container to throw all your dies into.  Some of them are very small and can easily be trashed with all the left over bits and pieces.  The same goes with stamps.  I use a very inexpensive acrylic photo frame, or the ruler that goes with my glass mat, for my stamps and just the lid of a cookie tin for all of my dies.  Then when the project is finished, it's easy to clean up and pack everything back in its place.

As promised, here is the list of supplies I used, each linked to the Dies R Us store
for your convenience.

Ironman Birthday!

Hello crafting friends and welcome back.  It's my turn today to share a card on the Dies R Us Inspiration Blog, so let me show you the fun Ironman birthday card I made for my son.

The front of the card ...

and when you open it up, Ironman flies above the city!!  😀
This is such a fun die from Karen Burniston, and can be adapted to so many occasions.

In order to keep within the theme of Ironman flying above the city, I used a few clouds to cover the original moon die cut.  My clouds were cut by hand, since the only dies I have are too small.  I will list a different option in the list of supplies below, one that I'm planning on getting with my next order.
I used one of the crosshatch squares to make a mat to place on the inside of the card. This is where I will write my message.  I also used a few foam squares to pop up the reactor on the front of the card.

It was such an easy card to put together.  The papers are all digital, so it was easy to size to the correct measurements to fit this 5.5" x 5.5" card. Even though there the Reactor is on foam dots and there is the "flight" mechanism on the inside, it does not add a lot of bulk to the card, so you shouldn't have to add extra postage.   Ironman and his Reactor Arc were sourced from Google.  To see an assembly tutorial, by Karen Burniston, on how to make the Rocket Pop-up card, please click HERE

As always, here is the list of supplies I used, each linked to the Dies R Us store
for your convenience.

Batman Birthday

Hello crafting friends.  I'm sharing a fun Batman Birthday card on the Dies R Us Inspiration Blog.  I made this card for my son-in-law's birthday.

I used the Flap and Closure die by Karen Burniston to make the card closure.
The word "Celebrate" is also one of Karen's dies. The batarang is from Google 😊

When  you open the card ... Batman pops up.
I used the Surprise Ball pop up die, also by Karen Burniston.
To make the ball pop-up I used thick black cardstock and a #12 soft stretch rubber band.

By using a brad before you adhere the "ball" to the card, you can make the "ball" spin :-)

I cut the bits and pieces to make Batman's mask by googling various images,
picking one and then adapting it to the ball pop-up.

The ball flattens when the card is closed.  Since it doesn't add a lot of bulk, it's easy to put in the mail.

Please click on the links for the video tutorial by Karen Burniston.  She shows you how to put both die sets together on this one video tutorial.

And here is the list of products I used, each linked to the Dies R Us store for your convenience.

Valentine Star Easel Card

Hello crafting friends and welcome back to my blog.  I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine weekend.  It's my turn to share a DT project on the Dies R Us Inspiration Blog,  so I'd like to share the fun Valentine card I made for my hubby.

Isn't it cute?

Here is a side view.

This is the back of the card and where you can stamp your greeting and write your personal message.

This card comes apart and folds flat for mailing. My card base was 5" x 6" and as you can see it fits in an A9 envelope which does not require extra postage to send it within the US or to send it overseas.

Now for a quick description:

I don't have a pictorial for you, but I do have the link to the tutorial video I followed.  Sam is great with her easy to follow instructions.  You can find the link here --> Star Easel Card.

I cut all the pieces of the card base, mirror card stock and patterned paper.  I used Memento Lady Bug ink to shade in all the edges of the patterned paper to give it a little more definition.  Then I cut a scalloped circle and a regular circle and adhered them together to make the background mat for cupid.  Lastly, I cut the cupid in red card stock and adhered it to the mat. I used foam dots to stick it down on the "star" part of the card.  I think this is such a fun card to make and it doesn't take long at all.  And best of all, you can practically do it in any size you like.  I prefer the rectangle shapes as I feel the "star" is more defined, but you can make them as square cards too!  This explanation is also on the tutorial video I linked to above.

As always, here is a list of the materials I used,
each linked to the Dies R Us store, for your convenience.

Please note that you can use any scalloped circle/regular circle combination, so if Dies R Us are out of the Spellbinders dies, you can use Lawn FawnImpression Obsession, or Elizabeth Craft Designs, just to name a few that will work and are currently in stock at the store. Similarly, you can enter "Cupid" in the store's search bar, and there will be many other options to replace the cupid I used, which is currently out of stock.

I'd like to remind you  that our sister store is now opened.  Didi Crafts has warehouses located in the USA and Canada, and although it carries some of the same products as Dies R Us, you will also be able to purchase a huge variety of crafty supplies for a variety of crafts.  Having this sister store means that our Canadian crafting friends won't have to worry about huge taxes or shipping fees.  Isn't that great?!  Go take a peek and be pleasantly surprised!
