Dies R Us #153 ~ One for the Boys!

Hello crafting friends and welcome to a new challenge at Dies R Us.

Challenge # 153 ~ One for the Boys!
(Make a masculine project)

I recently purchased a bunch of dies from Marianne Design during the Special Order Sale event at Dies R Us. In case you missed it, the best way to know about these special order sales is to subscribe to the Dies R Us newsletter. These sales only happen every so often, but when they do, you can purchase some lovely dies from overseas companies such as Marianne Design (one of my favourites😀), Joy! Crafts, Lea'Bilities, and a few others.

My little nephew's birthday is coming up so I thought this challenge was just perfect for me to get his birthday card done. Got to stop calling him my LITTLE nephew, he's going to be 14!!! Time sure does flies!

So using my new dies, I came up with this card, that I hope is cool for a 14 year old boy!

It was pretty easy to assemble.  I cut out the card base, then all the other bits and pieces and then it was just a matter of putting them altogether, and voila, the card was done.

Making this card, also gave me the opportunity to play with my new mini die cutting machine.  What a blessing! I have a Gemini and constantly fight with warped plates. I really do wish they still sold the Cut 'n Boss. Had it for about 3 years and used the same original plates.  Pretty much the same with my Cuttlebug. But the Gemini, although it cuts beautifully, the plates are really a thorn in my side. So I bought a desktop mini CGull.  It only cuts small dies - up to 3" wide, but for these small pieces it's great, and the crank is really light.  So there you have it, just my 2c. 😀

Okay, now that I went completely off track there for a bit, here is the list of supplies I used to make this card, and as always, I've linked each to the  Dies R Us store for your convenience.

DRU Challenge #145 ~ Grad/Congrats!

Hello crafting friends and welcome to a new challenge at Dies R Us.

Challenge # 145 ~ Grad  / Congrats!

Unfortunately, most, if not all, graduates this year will not be able to graduate in the traditional manner, but they will still be able to receive a card from family and friends to let them know that we are thinking about them.
Here is one of the cards I made for high school graduate. The school colours are maroon, black and white, so I tried to stick to those colours as much as possible.

I used the Frame Card Stamp 4K die from Card Deco to cut my shaped card. Love these dies, so easy to use and produces a shaped card with just one pass on your die cutting machine.  Although this die is 12" long, it is only 6" wide, so it will fit in the majority of die cutting machines.  If you don't have a set of long die cutting plates, you can pass it through one time, then move your die with card stock in place and run it the other way for a second pass.
After adhering my papers down, I used the Congrats Grad die from Tutti Designs as my focal point.

I wanted a little bit of colour variation, so I die cut it out of white, maroon, silver and black card stocks.
I then fussy cut the bow and the cap out of the maroon card stock and adhered to the white. I did the same with the silver for the stars.  I used the black in it's original form and adhered that to the white a little to the top to give it a black shadow. This helped the die stand out more from the backing papers.  I also hand made a tiny tassel and attached it to the hat using a tiny brad.

On the inside, I left it pretty plain so I could add my personal message. I just added a strip of both DP's I used on the front of the card.  That was it.  It didn't take long at all to put together, but I think it came out pretty cute.

Here is a list of supplies used to make this card, each linked to the Dies R Us store for your convenience.
