Lavinia World #30 ~ Dream High

Hello crafting friends and welcome to challenge #30 at Lavinia World,
where the theme is always Anything Goes!

I had so much fun making the last "under the sea card", that I tried my hand at making another one.  This time in a tall, skinny version.

I started with a piece of teal card stock that was 9" x 8", giving me a card that measures 9" x 4" after you score it down the middle at the 4" mark.

After cutting a piece of white card stock and a piece of the patterned vellum, both measuring 8 7/8" by 3 7/8", I took a variety of stamps and inks and began creating my scene around the majestic Sebastian.  I've listed all the stamps and inks below.

Can you see the two tones I used on Sebastian to make him a little more magical? I first inked him up with Memento Paris Dusk ink and then lightly tapped the stamp with Versafine Clair Warm Breeze ink pad.  It was an experiment that worked out, this thing of using two different types of inks together. 😀

In order to fit the sentiment on the top, I had to mask off the bottom line and ink the top line. Next I pulled off the tape and stamped.  Then I did the same thing but this time masked off the top line, inked and stamped the bottom line. On this picture, you can see that the patterned vellum has sea horses on it.  It's a beautiful pack that I got from Paper Discovery. You can also clearly see the jelly fish which were stamped on the white card stock which sits under the vellum. This gives it a softer look and the impression of distance. I finished the card by stamping the seaweed in various shades of greens, some on the vellum and some on the white card stock underneath. I felt like it needed a bit of colour so I added a few fairy barnacles in a burn orange colour.

I stamped another couple of small sea horses, jelly fish and seaweed on the inside of the card to bring it all together.

This card fits perfectly in a business size envelope as you can see above. I was having so much fun with these stamps that I continued the theme onto the envelope.  I think the postal workers will enjoy it too 😀

As promised, here is the list of the supplies I used to make this card.
I have linked each one to the Lavinia World store for your convenience.

Lavinia World #27 ~ Sea Horse Edger Card

Hello crafting friends and welcome to challenge #27 at Lavinia World,
where the theme is always Anything Goes!

I'm loving the edger die collection from Creative Expressions. They have so many and they are lovely. They're also very easy to use,  and very versatile. These are always important things to me when I invest in dies.

So without further ado, let me show you how I created this card using the Sea Horse Edger die.

I started with a piece of teal card stock that was 6.5" wide and 10" long. I scored it at 5" making this a 5" x 6.5" (A7) card.  I placed the edger die on the front of the card and put it through the die cutting machine.

Then I created my ocean scene for the inside of the card. I began with a piece of white card stock which is  6 3/8" x 4 7/8". Next I cut a piece of nautical patterned vellum to the same size.  I stamped the various under the sea elements both on the vellum and on the white card stock behind it to give a more soft and distant look.  Looking at it now, I think that maybe I should have made the jellyfish a little darker. I will list all the supplies I used below.

Here is a closer look at the inside of the card.
I love this patterned vellum paper, by Paper Discovery. You can stamp on it beautifully, although it does take a little while to dry, and the glue you use to adhere it to the card, does not show through.

I needed a place to write my personal message, so I made this mat and adhered it to the back of the card.

It took a little while to put this card together but it was very relaxing and I enjoyed every minute of it. I think what took the longest was deciding what to stamp on the vellum and what to stamp behind the vellum :-)

As promised, here is the list of the supplies I used to make this card.

I have linked each one to the Lavinia World store for your convenience.

"Under the Sea"

Hello crafting friends and welcome to challenge #6 at Lavinia World,
where the theme is always Anything Goes!

It's August and I'm in full Summer mode :-) With that in mind I made an ocean themed card using the lovely Guinevere mermaid.

I started by making my sea shell shaped card using the Sea Shell die from Marianne Designs.
I used Memento inks to shade in the embossed areas - Desert Sand and Angel Pink.  Then I added a few burlap flowers and pearls from Petaloo.

When  you open the card you see a pretty "under the sea" scene :-)
Here are a few close ups of the inside of the card.

First I stamped Guinevere and made a mask for the entire stamp.  Then, using Broken China and Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide inks, I created the background using blending brushes.  For the sand at the bottom of the ocean, I used Memento Desert Sand ink.  Next I filled in my scene by stamping the little seahorse, seaweed and fairy barnacle. To finish it off, I added Stickles to her dress/tail and a few bubbles.
I coloured the rock with copic markers being very careful not to go over the black lines.  Pigment inks do not do well with copic markers, but I only remembered that after it was all done.  Colouring the rock was the last thing I did.  I'll have to try to remember this next time :-)

I continued the scene by stamping the jelly fish, shoal of fish and more seaweed, barnacles and bubbles, using Versafine Clair inks - Shady Lane, Acorn, Nocturne, and Monarch.
I also added Glassy accents to the bubbles to give it some dimension without making it more bulky.

Since I didn't want to ruin the scene with my written message :-), I created this mat for the back of the card and stamped the Fairy Birthday message in the center giving me plenty of space for my message
If you're wondering why my stamped image looks different than the original stamp ... well, the stamp was longer than my mat, so I cut it in half.
Oh boy, I can hear your shocked gasp from here :-)  These stamps are made of very good quality material.  You can cut them in half and use them as you wish, and then use them again as it was originally intended by placing the two pieces side by side.  You won't ruin your stamp as long as you don't cut any piece of the actual words or stars.

Here is a quick recap of all the products I used,
each linked to the Lavinia World store, for your convenience.
