I'm still enjoying summer themed cards, so using  Sea Mermaid & Under the Sea Paper from Twinkle Lane Designs, I made this shelf card.

View of front with the beautiful Mermaid as the focal point and one of the papers from the paper pack as the background.  Although you can't see it very well, I went over the mermaid outfit, hair piece and each scale on her tail with a Sakura clear gelly roll pen. It added a  beautiful sparkle and shine to the image.

View from the side.

View from the top.

View from the back - lots of space to write your own personal message.
The sentiment I used comes with the Mermaid image.

One of the ways you can close the card to put it in an envelope, is by folding the stand upwards.  I, however, prefer to close it with the stand going down, as it can be seen in the pic below.

I feel that it is more fun for the recipient to see the whole card, when taking it out of the envelope.  Don't you agree?

With folding the card this way, it will fit into an A9 envelope, but you will have to score the envelope flap a 1/4"  on the flap to make it slightly wider.  As you can see I printed the Mermaid on the corner of the envelope and coloured it with copic markers.  Let me tell you that envelopes do not make a good medium for colour blending!

It will still seal closed without any problems, but you may have to pay a little extra postage.  Of course, if you make your card smaller, you won't have any of these problems 😀  I just like the large sized cards. When folded this way, this card measures 7 3/4" x 6".  I believe it's a beautiful mantel showstopper!

  2. This is AWESOME Lena! Love your coloring and all the dimension this card offers. I tried making one of these fold cards last week and was struggling (yep I struggle with 3d things lol) but your post helped me to not feel like quite so much a failure. To have my card sit up correctly the way yours is, I couldn't fold it 'up' but it worked fine to fold it 'down' even though that required a larger envelope. I tried and tried the 'up' way but the box positioning on the card wasn't correct. SO now I will pull it back out and finish it just knowing it's okay to also fold it 'down' for in the envelope. KWIM
Thanks for helpful hints and inspiration!

  3. This fold is new to me, and it’s one I can definitely see the use of. I love how it adds dimension to a scene. And it’s practical for standing up. The whole design is totally awesome.
