A Christmas Lantern

Hello crafting friends and welcome back to another Dies R Us inspiration post. It's my turn to share a project that I've wanted to do for a while and thought it now the perfect time.  It's a Christmas Lantern. Isn't it pretty?

While I was at Walmart, I saw this pretty lantern and immediately my mind started working. I've wanted to alter a lantern for a long time and this lantern just jumped out at me :-)


I began by taking the four pieces of glass out, cleaning them really well with alcohol and then spraying them with Rustoleum Frosted Glass to give it the frosted look.  Since I wasn't sure how the vinyl would adhere to the frosted surface, I sprayed the glass panels on the inside.

Next came the vinyl cuts to make my scenes.  I had never cut vinyl using dies before, so I was a little apprehensive at first, but after the first cut,  I realised that it was pretty easy, and so the rest of the lantern scenes came together very quickly.

And lastly here is a photo that shows you what it looks like when lit up.  This particular lantern is actually very cool in that it has a built in timer clock of sorts.  So it goes on for 6 hours and off  for 18 hours.  It's just perfect ... it goes on at 6:00 pm and flickers away till midnight.  Then it goes off and comes back on again at 6:00 pm the next day :-)

While I was working on the lantern, the little Christmas decoration it came with fell apart.  So I made my own and attached it with a Christmas tartan ribbon.
